Spray Tanning

Spray Tanning at Urban Glo

A beautiful tan can transform the way you feel, giving the confidence to step out and celebrate a golden tone that works wonderfully every day of the week. All of our White to Brown products have been created with this is mind, with a range that suits all age groups, skin tones and lifestyles.

What is DHA?
The essential ingredient within all self-action tans is Dihydroxyacetone or DHA, derived from plant sources such as sugar cane. Naturally colourless, it reacts with the amino acids in skin proteins resulting in pigments called melanoidins, which are similar in colouration to melanin found deeper within the skin layers. This colour does not provide any protection from UV exposure and overall sun protection is essential.

On average, DHA will take approximately 6-8 hours to fully develop, although fast-acting DHA based products can take as little as an hour to show results.

How Do Bronzers Work?
Almost all self-action tanning products contain cosmetic bronzers that give an instant colour until the DHA begins to develop 2-4 hours later. These bronzers wash off with soap and water and give clients an immediate colour. They also act as a ‘colour guide’ for the therapist throughout the treatment, helping to give more even results.

Pre-Treatment

  • We ask clients to exfoliate before a tan to remove as many dead skin cells as possible. The daily exfoliation that occurs naturally in the skin is what eventually causes the tan to fade, so by removing as much as possible prior to a tan we can ideally be preparing the new skin to absorb the colour too. For the best results we recommend using White to Brown Skin Polish for soft, smooth skin.
  • Clients should avoid using an oil based moisturiser prior to the treatment as the tan may not grab to the skins surface to its full potential as the moisturiser will act as a barrier.
  • All hair removal must have taken place at least 24 hours beforehand.
  • No perfumes, deodorant or makeup should be present at the time of treatment.
  • Clients should come for the treatment wearing loose dark clothing and shoes such as flip-flops, as this will prevent tan rubbing away during the development period.

Post-Treatment

  • Avoid any excessive sweating while the tan is developing
  • Avoid all initial contact with water
  • Do not apply any products over the developing tan
  • Allow 6-8 hours for the tan to develop but where possible, leave the tan on overnight
  • Avoid touching the skin during the development period as this may cause staining on the palms of hands
  • It is advisable that on the initial removal of the tan you merely buff off the excess colour and avoid shower gels, shampoos, etc. Remember the brown product which washes away is just the colour guide and not the tan itself. What the skin cannot retain it rejects
  • Do not exfoliate within the first week
  • Avoid excessive spraying of perfume onto the body as this will cause the skin to become dry, therefore reducing the life expectancy of the tan
  • Also note that spray tans do not protect from sunburn and do not include a sunscreen
  • Keep the body well moisturised as this will keep the tan longer
